Now that our four Ad Camp interns have settled in, we thought it was time to introduce them to you. From account service and coordination to digital strategy and consumer insights, they’re living and breathing the L&S outthink, outdo mantra and fast-paced environment. Ok, I’ll stop rambling and let them do the talking. Say hello to Sara, Hayden, Emmalie and Jaycie.

sara waldner
Where are you from?
Hartford, SD.
Where do you go to school? What is your major?
Augustana University (go Vikes!) where I majored in Business/Communication Studies and Media Studies.
What is your position at L&S?
Account Service Intern.
Why did you pick L&S for your internship?
I’ve always thought of L&S as the best place to learn about marketing and advertising. The agency’s reputation for incredible campaigns, a fast-paced work environment and go-getter attitudes drew me in, and I was stoked when I was offered the position.
What is your favorite project you’ve worked on so far?
I’ve been able to help with a range of projects in many disciplines, but trying my hand at researching a variety of different brands has been my favorite. I am also loving the opportunities to write creatively for projects, blogs and proposals. Being in an environment that welcomes ideas – big and small – allows the business-focused side of me flourish.
Pizza or tacos?
Pizza! *heart eyes emoji*
Sea side or mountain view?
Sea-side cabana, please.
Flight or road trip?
You can’t take a road trip over the ocean, and that’s where I want to be.
Dogs or cats?
Doggos for sure.
Apple or Android?
Apple all the way. Once you go Mac, you never go back.
Twitter or Instagram?
Twitter is my comfort zone. I wish I could live in the Twitter-verse and never go back to reality.
hayden thompson
Where are you from?
Harrisburg, SD.
Where did you go to school? What was your major?
The University of South Dakota. I was a double major in Psychology (to read minds) and Strategic Communications (to smooth talk…while reading minds).
What’s your position at L&S?
Consumer Insights Intern.
Why did you pick L&S for your internship?
I wanted to gain experience in the marketing and advertising industry, and there’s no better place to do it in the tri-state area than at L&S.
What’s your favorite project you’ve worked on so far?
There are so many to choose from, but I’ve been working on a couple different projects recently that allowed me to help conduct public intercepts and focus groups. This has been a fun segment of my internship because it allowed me to go out and speak with the public and get their point of view on certain brands and advertising, which has pushed me to learn a lot and act quickly on my feet.
Pizza or tacos?
You’re going to sit here and tell me people actually pick tacos over pizza? They’ve clearly never tried a slice of breakfast pizza from Casey’s General Store.
Sea side or mountain view?
Five o’clock shadow, no crowds, peaceful view – I’m a mountain man, no doubt. Mud on my boots > sand in my shorts.
Flight or road trip?
Life is a highway. Let me take the road trip and go my way. All night long.
Dogs or cats?
I mean cats are…interesting. They have nine lives and always land on their feet. But I’m going to stick with puppers on this one.
Apple or Android?
Gotta give it to the late, great Mr. Jobs. Please keep your green texts to yourself.
Twitter or Instagram?
The Gram.
emmalie benson
Where are you from?
Born and raised in Jackson, MN.
Where did you go to school? What was your major?
I graduated from the University of Sioux Falls (go Coo!) and majored in Business Administration.
What’s your position at L&S?
I’m a Digital Intern.
Why did you pick L&S for your internship?
I love the competitive atmosphere of the agency and the drive to win. Nobody settles for “good enough,” and it constantly pushes me to think more creatively to give clients more than what they’ve asked for.
What’s your favorite project you’ve worked on so far?
Definitely heatmapping. Learning how to read and analyze heatmaps was something I had no experience in, and it ended up being super interesting.
Pizza or tacos?
Taco pizza, next.
Sea side or mountain view?
Uhhhh…top of a mountain in Hawaii whale watching?? So, again, both.
Flight or road trip?
ROAD TRIP!!! Road trip playlists, more/better opportunities for snacks and no flight delays make for an all-around better experience.
Dogs or cats?
Dogs for sure.
Apple or Android?
Apple FTW.
Twitter or Instagram?
Twitter.

Where are you from?
Sioux Falls, SD.
Where do you go to school? What’s your major?
The University of South Dakota, Strategic Communications.
What’s your position at L&S?
Account Service Intern.
Why did you pick L&S for your internship?
I wanted hands-on experience that was going to teach me more than a class could, and I knew L&S would give me that.
What’s your favorite project you’ve worked on so far?
The work we’ve done for Dakota State University! Since I’m still in college, it’s the project that aligns closest to my life, so I find it interesting.
Pizza or tacos?
I’ve had tacos for three meals in the past week if that answers the question.
Sea side or mountain view?
Sea side = warm weather = no snow = happy Jaycie.
Flight or road trip?
Flights. I’m too impatient/restless for road trips.
Dogs or cats?
I love dogs and even have a reputation at L&S for being a pretty great dog sitter.
Apple or Android?
Apple ‘til the day I die. (I’m typing this on a PC. Steve Jobs, please forgive me.)
Twitter or Instagram?
I spend an embarrassing amount of time on both, but Twitter has my heart.
