Summer Timeline | Ad Camp 2024

It’s been a wild summer for us Ad Campers. Our time at L&S has flown by and we’re so thankful for all the lessons, friends and memories we’ve made along the way. As we bid you happy trails, take a look back at all we’ve gotten to experience this summer.

Ad camp 2024

March 15th

Carly arrives at Ad Camp to work part time.

Carly begins interning full-time.

Zach arrives at Ad Camp.

7th

Zach attends first client meeting.

10th

We celebrate the 48th anniversary of L&S.

13th

Jack, Sally, & Calli arrive at Ad Camp.

13-17th

We celebrate Mental Health Awareness Week with yoga, a walk to the park and some breathing practice.

The agency celebrates a new client. We learn how to party L&S style.

16th

Zach’s first trip (of many) to wash the company car.

20th

Rose arrives at Ad Camp. She sits next to Jack.

21st

Zach travels to his first and second client meetings. He dresses “way too formally.”

31st

Intern lunch at Look’s Marketplace. Jack’s sandwich is too spicy. We collaborate on a coloring page and hang it on the breakroom fridge.

End of May

Jack and Carly lose their keycards.

Early June

Someone steals our coloring page from the fridge.

3rd

Sally builds a survey that goes out to client.

Carly coordinates interview shoots and tries sushi for the first time.

5th

Kjerstin snaps an intern group photo of us.

Rose shadows a Sioux Empire United Way video shoot.

6th

We participate in the Bags and Bevvies tournament where our teams Bag Baddies, Schanzen-jocks and Over & Out play with real heart.

It’s announced that Calli accepted a full-time designer position! She moves on from our intern gang, but she still graces our Slack channel. We’re happy for her and happy with this compromise.

11th

Carol takes us on a behind the scenes tour of the agency. We learn where all the extra toilet paper is stored.

12th

Zach submits lottery marketing for national awards.

Jack attends first client meeting. They love the logo direction he brought.

13th

We play a big game of four square hosted by Team Haus over lunch.

We each present our two truths and lie at the quarterly staff meeting and had candy cigarettes.

Carly leads her first solo client call.

14th

Jack and the rest of team Renegade have a picnic on the sort of broken outdoor tables.

18th

We host the Our Dakota Dreams Summer Camp. Zach and Carly coordinate the stations and the other interns run a “Shark Tank” style game. The kids’ creative pitches are certainly creative.

Jack moves desks, leaving Rose. She’s not bitter. He also shares his first design at twice a week critique.

Zach attends his first shoot.

21st

Our first meeting in the Boardroom as an intern group. It is deemed our go-to spot for all future meetings. We love adjusting the lights and doodling on the white board table.

26th

We travel up to see L&S’s new digs in Minneapolis at the Grand Opening Event. Some interesting music played on the bus ride.

Rose is trained on how to man the phone. She shadows a video shoot that night where she gained experience, a few bug bites and a s’more.

27th

We learn the history of L&S from John Pohlman and Scott Lawrence at the new employee lunch. We felt quite fancy dining at the Minnehaha Country Club.

July

1st

We present our research on user generated content to leadership. We were a bit nervous, but it was exciting to share our findings.

Sally presents research to Sara Waldner and Carly Hegstad for their Lookout presentation.

2nd

Zach embarks on an 850 mile journey from Brookings to Rapid City and back to move a sculpture.

3rd

We eat ice cream to celebrate America’s birthday.

Carly and Rose play Defend the Dollar, answering trivia questions about the US of A.

11th

Zach once again travels a great distance to move a sculpture.

8-12th

We each spend a day taking over the L&S Instagram account and get to experience life as social media influencers.

12th

Sally starts conducting her own primary research for her Lounge & Learn presentation.

14th

Carly is recruited for the 2024 SD House Golf Scramble and helps bring the team to victory.

16th

We chow down and live it up at the Family Picnic. We eat outdoors, meet everyone’s significant others, and Carly does an epic flip off the swingset.

We attend The Lookout and watch presentations about the future of marketing.

Zach makes his voice acting debut, playing the role of a driver who learns the importance of slowing down.

22nd

Carly flexes her golf skills at the DSU Trojan scramble.

23rd

Carly goes on her first client trip to Duluth.

31st

We give our Food for Thought presentation. We cover the topic of marketing takeaways we can glean from reality television.

August

1st

Zach makes his video debut for a South Dakota Lottery Instagram Reel.

2nd

We hit up Vinyl Taco for our second intern lunch to celebrate a successful presentation.

4th

Jack’s key card is found beneath a couch cushion in the lair.

The Great Vending Machine Incident of 2024. We’ll tell you about it for a Fresca.

7th

We play a round of golf at the annual L&S Golf Tournament and awards are distributed at the after party.

It’s announced that Sally accepted a three-month internship extension!

8th

Rose hosts the Campfire Stories podcast.

14th

Jack’s last day at L&S before heading back to finish his degree at SDSU and start training at BluePrint.

It’s announced that Carly accepted an internship extension through October!

16th

Zach and Rose’s last day. Zach will finish out his senior year at SDSU, and Rose will prepare for a study abroad.

We say farewell to Ad Camp 2024.
